What is Cyanotype?
Fabric patterns handmade from plant shadows...
Cyanotype is a very old form of photography that dates back to 1842.
To create a cyanotype photograph, either paper or fabric is dipped in a special light-sensitive liquid solution and then dried in the dark.
Then, either a film negative, or items, such as plants, can be placed on top of the sensitized paper or fabric. The whole thing gets exposed to light for several minutes and then the negative or plants are removed.
Wherever the shadows fall, the fabric or paper retains its original colour. Wherever the sun hits, the fabric or paper changes colour.
The fabric or paper is then thoroughly washed and when dry, the image is permanent.
